China’s Brightstar Cinema has started production on its first feature, The Deathday Party, starring Archie Kao, Anita Yuen and Naijin Xiong.
The psychological action thriller is based on original screenplay by Hang Tse, about a couple fighting to save themselves and their daughter as demons of the past collide with the present.
Amos Xue is executive producing with Chinese Film Group distributing in China. The film is currently shooting in the ancient Chinese Alu Caves of Yunnan, and will later move to locations in Beijing and Bangkok.
Kao has a role in US TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and has film credits including The One, Snow Flower And The Secret Fan and upcoming Chinese romcom Love Speaks. He is also co-hosting the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong on Monday (March 18).
Yuen previously won best actress three times at the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) for C’est Le Vie Mon Cheri, He’s A Woman, She’s A Man and The Days Of Being Dumb. Xiong is a popular TV actress in China with film credits including Tai Chi 0 and Tale Of Two Cities.
