StreetDance, the Vertigo Films’ feature starring the winners of TV show Britain’s Got Talent, has begun shooting in in London.
Vertigo recruited breakdancing group Diversity, who won this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, to star alongside rival act Flawless and the winner of last year’s contest, George Sampson, in what they claim will be the first non-US live action film to be shot in 3D.
The film, which is being produced by Vertigo’s James Richardson, tells the story of a street dance crew forced to work with classical dancers to win the UK Street Dance Championships.
Max and Dania, known for their promo and video work, will direct the feature, which was scripted by Jane English and also stars Charlotte Rampling.
StreetDance is being co-funded by the UK Film Council’s Premiere Fund, BBC Films and Little Gaddesden Productions.
Sally Caplan, Head of the Premiere Fund, said the film “gives young British filmmakers a great opportunity to sink their teeth in to the latest 3D digital technology.”
StreetDance will be distributed by Vertigo Films in 2010 in the UK with international sales handled by Protagonist Pictures.
