Rajesh Kamat has been promoted to chief operating officer of CA Media, the Asian investment arm of Peter Chernin’s The Chernin Group, starting April 2014.
Kamat previously set up CA Media India in Mumbai. He will relocate to Singapore and report to Paul Aiello, CA Media Group’s Hong Kong-based CEO.
In his new role, Kamat will provide strategic guidance to the group’s existing investments across Asia, while continuing to oversee operations in India. He will also work with Aiello identify and manage growth opportunities for CA Media in the region.
Vivek Raicha and Rishi Negi will continue in their roles as Head of India Investments and Head of India Investee Operations respectively.
CA Media India investments include strategic stakes in Endemol India, Indian music and live events company Only Much Louder (OML) and comic book and merchandising company Graphic India. It also launched online network Fluence, which connects celebrities, consumers and brands.
Peter Chernin said: “As we move into our next phase of growth, it is critical to have a structure that supports our operations and continued expansion plans in Asia. Rajesh’s new expanded role in the region will help the group achieve this objective.”
In addition to a majority stake in CA Media, The Chernin Group encompasses Chernin Entertainment, a controlling stake in Crunchyroll and investments in media and digital media companies including Twitter, Tumblr and Flipboard.
Before joining CA Media, Kamat was COO of India’s Viacom18 Group and CEO of the Colors channel. Prior to that he was managing director of Endemol India and spent five years at Star India.
