London distributor Metrodome has picked up UK and Irish rights to Goal III: Taking On The World.
Metrodome’s CEO Peter Urie, Sara Frain, general manager, distribution and James Brown, head of acquisitions locked down the deal with Mike Jefferies and Matt Barrelle of Milkshake Films.
Goal III: Taking On The World sees Mexican football star Santiago Munez pitted against his Real Madrid team-mates and England players Charlie Braithwaite and Liam Adams in a bid to win the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The cast includes Kuno Becker (who also starred in Goal II), Leo Gregory, JJ Feild, Nick Moran, Tamar Hassan and Gary Lewis.
Andy Morahan (Highlander) directs while Mike Jefferies who penned Goal! and Goal II, wrote the script with Piers Ashworth. Mike Jefferies, Matt Barrelle and Peter Heslop produced.
The film also features scenes with footballers including David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Christiano Ronaldo, all captured in actual footage shot in Germany for the film by director Michael Apted (Gorillas in The Mist; The World Is Not Enough).
The third and final instalment of the football movie franchise will have a London premiere in June.
