Vivendi Entertainment has acquired US home video, digital and mobile rights to the Palisades Tartan catalogue, marking the first time the films will be available digitally to US audiences.
The catalogue includes two labels – the Asia Extreme slate of horror, thriller and action titles, and the Palisades Tartan International Art House collection.
The Asia Extreme library includes titles such as Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy and Thai horror Shutter. The arthouse collection includes Michael Winterbottom’s 9 Songs and Andrea Arnold’s Red Road.
Palisades acquired Tartan Films’ US library assets in May 2008 and two months later acquired the majority of the company’s UK library when it went into administration.
The merged entity, Palisades Tartan, is continuing to acquire films for theatrical release in the UK and US. At last year’s AFM, it snapped up UK rights to Park Chan-wook’s Thirst which is playing in competition at Cannes.
Palisades Tartan chairman, Vin Roberti, said: “Since acquiring the Tartan catalogue in 2008, we have entertained a number of significant offers for the right to distribute our product. Vivendi Entertainment not only provides a strong financial partner but an incredibly talented management team.”
