Seven features selected; French special screenings will bookend the event (May 12-20).

The lineup for the 50th anniversary running of Critics Week was announced Monday evening on the event’s website. In total, there are seven features in the main section with 10 short- or medium-length films (including one that may have the longest title of any film in the history of Cannes – see below) and four special screenings.

Valérie Donzelli’s La Guerre Est Déclarée will open Critics Week while Katia Lewcowicz’s Pourquoi Tu Pleures? is the closing night film, thereby bookending the event with two French pictures. Tarnation director Jonathan Caouette’s Walk Away Renée has a special screening and Eva Ionesco’s My Little Princess is the 50th anniversary special screening.

A mix of nationalities and first and second-timers make up the main competition. There are four first films (eligible for the Camera d’Or – as are Princess and Pourquoi above) with one French film and one Franco-Bulgarian co-production. Meanwhile, Hagar Ben Asher’s The Slut is from Israel/Germany while Sauna On Moon hails from China’s Zou Peng (see full list below). Shotgun Stories director Jeff Nichols is in the mix with Take Shelter, a film for which Sony has English-speaking rights.

Critics Week runs from May 12-20.
