Seven films from first time directors will compete in main selection; Michel Leclerc’s The Names Of Love, starring Jacques Gamblin, named as opening film.

The selection for the Critics Week sidebar of this year’s Cannes Film Festival was announced by organizers in Paris today (19th April).

Seven films will compete in the main selection while the same number will also vie for the short film prizes. All seven of the feature films in the main selection are from first time directors hailing from such countries as Denmark, South Korea, the US and France (see full list below). Denmark also appears in the short film selection as does the UK with two films along with Australia, Brazil and France.

Opening Critics Week will be The Names Of Love from France’s Michel Leclerc. The world premiere film stars Jacques Gamblin and Sara Forestier and is a Kare Productions effort. The film will be distributed by UGC in France with international sales handled by TF1 International.

Other special screenings include Marc Fitoussi’s Copacabana with Isabelle Huppert, Lolita Chammah and Aure Atika and Quentin Dupieux’s Rubber. The closing night film has yet to be determined.

In the short and medium-length special screenings are L’Amour Propre from France’s Nicolas Silhol; Cynthia Todavia Tiene Las Llaves from Argentina’s Gonzalo Tobal and Fracture from France’s Nicolas Sarkissian.
