Imagenation Abu Dhabi has unveiled its first Emirati production, the coming-of-age drama Sea Shadow, to be directed by Nawaf Al-Janahi (pictured).
The project, which has been developed, financed and produced by the company, is scheduled to start shooting in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in October/November 2010.
Written by Mohamed Hassan Ahmad, the story follows a teenage boy and girl on a journey of self-discovery and examines how traditions and the local culture make it harder for them to express love and emotions openly.
Al-Janahi has previously directed and produced short film Mirrors Of Silence and full-length feature, The Circle, which premiered at the Gulf Film Festival in 2009.
“Sea Shadow is a significant milestone in the evolution of the film industry in the UAE,” said H.E. Mohamed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, chairman of Imagenation Abu Dhabi. “This film signals our determination to help grow a generation of film-makers whose work is of a quality and standard to appeal both to local and regional audiences, and which is powerful enough to resonate with discerning movie goers internationally.”
Imagenation Abu Dhabi aims to develop the film industry in the UAE in addition to forging international partnerships with companies such as Participant Media, National Geographic Films, Hyde Park Entertainment and Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA).
