Santa Monica-based Lightning Entertainment has bolstered its Cannes slate with the international rights to Tribeca premiere Don McKay.
The darkly comic thriller centres on a man who is summoned by an ex-girlfriend to his home town and returns to discover everything is not quite as it seems. It stars Thomas Haden Church, Elisabeth Shue and Melissa Leo.
Jake Goldberger wrote and directed and Jim Young produced. Emmet Walsh, Keith David, James Rebhorn and Pruitt Taylor round out the key cast.
Lightning senior vice president of acquisitions, Joe Dickstein, and corporate counsel Megan Holstein brokered the deal with Young. The producers hold North American rights.
Lightning’s slate includes Jonathan Hensleigh’s upcoming gangster thriller The Irishman, as well as Michael Keaton’s directorial debut The Merry Gentleman and the thriller The Reef.
