Spanish producer Morena Films is heading to Cannes with Wild Bunch selling its two recent productions: youth drama Scorpion in Love and apocalyptic feature The Last Days.
Scorpion in Love, starring Alex García, Carlos Bardem and Javier Bardem, is a drama about the coming of age of a young talented boxer who belongs to a hooligan gang who falls in love for a black girl. The film opened in Spain last April to good reviews.
Scorpion in Love is directed by Santiago Zannou (Goya winner for best new director with The One Handed-Trick) and portrays the inner life of Madrid’s suburbs and racial conflicts.
An adaptation of a Carlos Bardem novel, the film is produced by Alvaro Longoria (Che, 7 Days in Havana) and has a strong appeal with young audiences with a mix of violence and romance.
The Last Days, directed by David and Alex Pastor (Carriers) shows the adventure of two men in an Apocalyptic Barcelona set in present time. After a catastrophe known as The Fear, citizens cannot abandon their homes.
The project stars Spanish superstars Quim Gutiérrez (Dark Blue Almost Black) and José Coronado (No Rest for the Wicked).
