Beta has closed a US deal with Music Box for German box office hit Oh Boy.
The US deal on the tragi-comedy is the latest in a long line of international sales including all major European territories as well as Japan and Australia/New Zealand.
Oh Boy, directed by Jan Ole Gerster, was a multiple award winner at German Academy Awards. It was produced by Schiwago Film in coproduction with HR and ARTE.
Oh Boy will be released in Benelux (ABC-Cinemien) and France (Diaphana) in the coming weeks.
Music Box’s managing director Ed Arentz said: “We’re thrilled to be working on one of the most entertaining debut films in some time. Writer/director Jan Ole Gerster has created a seemingly off-hand Berlin-set Catcher in the Rye and found a perfect lead in Tom Schilling.
“With the release of this film in the US, we disavow any responsibility for the likely increased influx of American slackers to Berlin.”
Beta CEO Dirk Schuerhoff said: “We are genuinely very proud that Music Box picked Oh Boy for the US. Ed Arentz und William Schopf, with whom we just recently partnered on Generation War, strongly believe in this film and therefore we feel in very good hands.”
