EXCLUSIVE: Ben Schnetzer, star of gay activist drama Pride, is to play a tragic Reuters photojournalist who was stoned to death in Mogadishu in 1993.
Schnetzer will play Dan Eldon in Journey Is The Destination, a $6m feature executive produced by Don Ranvaud, who is in Cannes. The cast will also include Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) and Ella Purnell (Maleficent).
Eldon was set upon by an angry mob while covering Somali’s Civil War and stoned to death, aged 22.
Produced by Martin Katz at Prospero Pictures and directed by Bronwen Hughes, the film has long been in the pipeline, with Daniel Radcliffe attached to the role in 2008.
The film is now due to shoot in July in South Africa. Voltage Pictures is the sales agent.
