EXCLUSIVE: Toronto-based Raven Banner has teamed with the creators of The Last Exorcism and acquired The Frankenstein Theory for Canadian distribution and international sales. Image holds US rights.

Raven Banner managing partners Michael Paszt and James Fler negotiated the deal with Jason Resnick on behalf of the producers. 

The Frankenstein Theory follows a desperate academic’s expedition to the Arctic Circle in a bid to salvage his reputation and prove that Mary Shelly’s literary character was more than fiction. Andrew Weiner will direct.

Andrew Gurland and Huck Botko produced The Frankenstein Theory and previously wrote the screenplay to The Last Exorcism based on their original idea and served as executive producers.

“We are very excited to be introducing such a strong example of ‘elevated genre’ at the Cannes Market,” said Paszt.

Raven Banner’s slate includes Rafa Lara’s $10m Mexican historical epic Cinco De Mayo: The Battle, which screens on Thursday [16].

Angelica Aragon, Kuno Becker, Mario Zaragoza, Liz Gallardo and Christian Vasquez star.
