James Gray, who jets into Cannes for the May 24 premiere of The Immigrant, is lining up a sci-fi thriller with the backing of Brazil’s RT Features. CAA brokered the deal and represents sales.
RT founder and CEO Rodrigo Teixeira will produce alongside his colleague Sophie Mas while Lourenço Sant’ Anna serves as executive producer.
Gray co-wrote the screenplay with Fringe show writer Ethan Gross. Plot details remain under wraps.
Competition entry The Immigrant stars Jeremy Renner, Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard. The Weinstein Company will distribute in the US later this year.
Gray also wrote the screenplay for Guillaume Canet’s Blood Ties, which screens out of competition on the Croisette.
RT Features recently produced Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha starring Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner and Adam Driver as well as Kelly Reichardt’s Night Moves starring Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning.
