Sundance Selects announced on Sunday [26] it had acquired US rights to Kore-eda Hirokazu’s jury prize winner Like Father, Like Son from Wild Bunch.
Fukuyama Masaharu, Ono Machiko, Maki Yoko, and Lily Franky star in the story of two families who are informed that their six-year-old sons were switched at birth.
Kameyama Chihiro, Hatanaka Tatsuro and Tom Yoda produced the Cannes world premiere.
Earlier in the festival Sundance Selects acquired US rights to Abdellatif Kechiche’s eventual Palme d’Or winner Blue Is The Warmest Color, as well as North American rights to Clio Barnard’s Directors Fortnight Europa Cinema Label Award-winner The Selfish Giant and US rights to Francois Ozon’s competition entry Young & Beautiful.
The distributor also acquired US rights to Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s Two Days, One Night starring Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, which is currently in pre-production.
