EXCLUSIVE: Ambitious Tanweer has closed a slew of acquisitions led by Big Eyes and St. Vincent from The Weinstein Company for India and Turkey and Laggies and The Forger from The Solution for India and Greece.
Elsewhere Tanweer has licensed rights to Survivor for India and Hercules 3D for Greece from Nu Image, King Of The Kastle for Turkey and Greece from fledgling International Film Trust and Chef and X06 for Turkey and Greece from Aldamisa.
The Kidnapping Of Freddy Heineken will open in India, Turkey and Greece following a deal with Embankment, while Superfast! from K5 will open in Greece, Turkey, India and Poland and Ballerina 3D from Gaumont will open in India.
Tanweer has also acquired a slew of product for the Middle East pursuant to its recent pact with the fast-rising Middle East theatre chain VOX Cinemas to set up the Dubai-based joint venture TM Pictures.
New titles include Queen Of The Night from eOne, And So It Goes from Foresight Unlimited and the Gaumont trio of Belle And Sebastian, Turning Tide and Magic Snowflake.
“We have been meaning to move into distribution for some time,” said VOX Cinemas senior marketing manager Michelle Walsh. When we met Tanweer and with their experience of more than 25 years in distribution and their desire to expand into the Middle East, everything aligned.”
“We will buy whatever we like and think is appropriate for the territory,” added Tanweer marketing and operations manager Eliana Eliopoulos.
