EXCLUSIVE: Worldview Entertainment has come on board to finance and produce the drama Song One starring Oscar winner Anne Hathaway. Lotus Entertainment will introduce to buyers in Cannes.
CAA arranged financing and represents US rights and Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow and COO Molly Conners will produce alongside Marc Platt, Jonathan Demme, Hathaway and Adam Shulman.
Production is set for May 29 in New York on Song One, the story of a young woman who forms a relationship with her ailing brother’s favourite musician. Kate Barker-Froyland directs from her own screenplay.
Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan will serve as executive producers. “Anne is a brilliant actress and we think she is perfect for this project,” said Woodrow. “We have a very strong creative team and we are looking forward to the start of filming in a couple of weeks.”
Worldview has three films premiering in official selection on the Croisette: James Gray’s The Immigrant, Arnaud Desplechin’s Jimmy P and Guillaume Canet’s Blood Ties.
Worldview’s other new market title is David Gordon Green’s drama Manglehorn, which WestEnd Films is introducing to buyers. Al Pacino will star.
The ambitious financier-producer has set up two co-financing deals with studios: Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s comedy Birdman with Fox Searchlight and New Regency and Daniel Espinosa’s crime thriller Child 44 Summit/Lionsgate.
Completed films set to premiere later this year are: Atom Egoyan’s crime thriller Devil’s Knot starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon; David Gordon Green’s drama Joe starring Nicolas Cage; Eli Roth’s cannibalism thriller The Green Inferno; and Ti West’s horror thriller The Sacrament.
