The 60th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival will have some more big names in its line up. Festival veterans as Bahman Ghobadi and Laurent Cantet join Costa-Gavras Lasse Hallström on the final announcements for the Official Section.
Laurent Cantet brings Foxfire, his first English-language feature. The Franco-Canadian co-production is baed on a Joyce Carol Oates novel and it follows the nuances of a group of girls of upstate New York who form a secret society. Cantet was a winner of the New Directors competition in 1999 with Human Resources.
A Festival regular, Iranian Bahman Ghobadi has won twice the Golden Shell with Turtles Can Fly (2004) and Half Moon (2006). After Nobody Knows the Persian Cats (winner of a prize in Un certain Regard in Cannes), in Rhino Season the filmmaker portrays the story of a Kurdish poet who goes out from jail after 30 years and tries to find his wife. Monica Bellucci and Behrouz Vossoughi star.
Costa-Gavras, director of cinema milestones as Z (1969) or Music Box (1989), will compete with The Capital, a darkly comic fable about the rise of a broker. Gabriel Byrne and Gad Elmaleh star.
Finally, Swedish Oscar winner director Lasse Hallström goes back home after a long career in Hollywood with The Hypnotist, a thriller around a police inquiry of a murder. Lena Olin and Börje Hansson lead the cast.
Those directors and films join the previously announced as François Ozon’s In The House, Carlos Sorín’s Fishing Days, Ziad Doueiri’s The Attack or Spanish titles as The Impossible, The Artist and the Model, and Twice Born.
