David O Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook was named Best Film Of The Year as the Italian event came to a close on Wednesday [Jan 2].
Silver Linings Playbook also won Best Actor for Brad Cooper, as well as the Capri Audience Award and the Best Acting Ensemble Of The Year Award for a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker and Julia Stiles.
Beasts Of The Southern Wild was named Best Surprise Film Of The Year and star Quvenzhane Wallis was named Best Actress.
Juan Antonio Bayona received the Best Director prize for The Impossible and Ariel Vroman was named Best Breakout Director for The Iceman.
In other awards, the Capri, Hollywood Legend Award went to Franco Nero, the Capri Cult Award went to director Antoine Fuqua, the Best Short Film Award went to Edoardo Ponti for The Night Shift Belongs To The Stars, and the European Actress Of The Year Award was presented to German actress Nina Hoss for Barbara.
“Silver Linings Playbook is not only the most brilliant romantic comedy in years, but also a real audience-pleasing movie with a heart-warming story and amazing performances,” said Italian director Lina Wertmuller, honorary chairperson of festival backer the Istituto Capri Nel Mondo.
