Catch 23 Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the film rights to two stories from Melissa Banks' short fiction collection The Girl's Guide To Hunting And Fishing. The stories are The Worst Thing A Suburban Girl Could Imagine and My Old Man, personal favourites of Catch 23 chairman Bob Sturm who brought them into the company for a sum in the low-to-mid six figures.
The Girl's Guide To Hunting And Fishing is a set of stories about a contemporary woman's struggles to find a life for herself in contemporary Manhattan. Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope owns the rights to the collection's title story and it is currently in development at Disney.
Marina Zenovich, Catch 23's senior vice president of acquisitions and development, will oversee the development of the two feature scripts based on the stories.
Catch 23 was represented in the deal by outside counsel Bruce Varan, with Sylvie Rabineau of Rabineau Wachter Literary Agency representing Banks.
