China's The Road was the biggestwinner at the 2nd Asian Festival of 1st Films (AFFF), which wrapped Wednesdaynight in Singapore.

The Zhang Jiarui-directeddrama walked away with best film, best script and a new Foreign Press Choice'sPurple Orchid award.

US production Journey From The Falltied with Dombivli Fast from India in the categories of both best producer and bestdirector. Two Indian films, Omkaraand Gangster, also tied for the bestcinematographer award.

Award presenters include Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong and UK actress Gina McKee as well as the jury panel whichconsists of Hong Kong actress Cecilia Yip, US scriptwriter Jim Hart, Indian director Ketan Mehta,British documentary director Michael Yorke and German cinematographer VolkerLanghoff.

A total of 22 nominatedfeature films and documentaries were showcased over seven days at two venues inSingapore. The award ceremony was held at the Raffles Hotel.

"We've received three timesmore entries than last year," said festival director Sanjoy Roy. "Many of thenominated films from last year went on to play at film festivals worldwide andmost importantly, found distribution. AFFF is not just about presenting awardsbut also about finding business at the end of the exercise."

Last year's best filmwinner, The Blossoming Of Maximo Oliveros,travelled to over a dozen festivals including Sundance and Berlin where it won three awards. It was also released inthe US and has been selected as the Philippines' entry for this year's foreign-language Oscar.

AFFF was inaugurated lastyear as part of the Asia Media Festival with the aim to celebrate emergingfirst-time film-makers and actors. Asia Media Festival is a key media eventhosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore.

AFFF is organized by Indianentertainment company Teamwork which produces a variety of performing artsfestivals around the world, including the Edinburgh International and FringeFestival.
