China’s Youku Tudou has appointed Edward Su as chief operating officer and restructured its production business into nine units based on different content categories.
The nine content centres include movies, TV dramas, news, variety shows, games, animation, music, education and entertainment information.
Allen Huilong Zhu, head of Youku’s movie division Heyi Pictures, will manage the movie content centre; Youku president Frank Ming Wei will manage TV dramas, news and education; Tudou president Weidong Yang will manage variety shows, entertainment information, animations and music; and Leo Jian Yao will manage games.
Youku is also launching two new business divisions – Heyi Studios and Innovative Marketing. The company’s chief content officer, Sunny Xiangyang Zhu, has been appointed CEO of Heyi Studios, which will produce original TV dramas and web content.
Innovative Marketing will be headed by Youku’s chief marketing officer, Yawei Dong, and will develop programme advertising, video ecommerce, big data and other new marketing models.
Following the changes, Youku Tudou will have six business units: Youku streaming platform, Tudou streaming platform, Heyi Pictures, Heyi Studios, Innovative Marketing and Cloud Entertainment BU, which focuses on gaming and OTT.
“With today’s announcements, the framework of Youku Tudou’s multi-business unit and content centre structure is in place,” said Youku Tudou chairman and CEO Victor Koo.
“We’re well poised to rapidly ramp up our content creation, accelerate our revenue growth and diversification, and fully capitalise on the opportunities that the converging online and offline worlds bring us.”
