Singapore’s Media Development Authority (MDA) is organising a film festival of Chinese cinema to be held alongside the inaugural edition of ScreenSingapore (June 5-12).
The five-day China Film Festival (June 6-10) will open with the love story Deep In The Clouds, directed by Liu Jie, which won four awards at last year’s Shanghai International Film Festival including best director, best music, Jury Grand Prize and Special Jury Prize.
The closing film will be Zhang Yibai’s Eternal Moment produced by popular actor Li Yapeng, who also starred in the film opposite actress Xu Jinglei.
The film selection also includes The Piano in The Factory, whose male lead won best actor at last year’s Tokyo International Film Festival; award-winning children’s film Walking To School, and $11m hand-drawn animated feature The Dreams of Jinsha, which was one of 15 films to qualify for best animation feature at this year’s Oscars.
The festival is supposed by the Film Bureau under China’s State Administration
of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), with the aim of promoting film exchanges
between China and Singapore. China will host a Singapore Film Festival next year.
This is the second time that both parties are collaborating to host film festivals in each
other’s country, following the inaugural Singapore Film Festival in Beijing and Shanghai
in 2007, and the first China Film Festival in Singapore in 2008.
