Working Title Films co-chiefs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are to be honoured as producers of the year at Cinema Expo International 2001, while UIP president and chief operating officer Andrew Cripps is distributor of the year.
The awards will be dished out at the final night gala bash at the Amsterdam convention, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. The event, which expects to attract 2,000 industry members, runs from June 25 to June 28.
Commenting on Bevan and Fellner's award, Jimmy Sunshine, Cinema Expo's co-managing director, said: "From the company's first releases back in 1985 with Sid And Nancy and My Beautiful Laundrette, through to their most current box office smash, Bridget Jones's Diary, Tim and Eric and Working Title Films have proven to be amongst the key, cutting edge, dynamic players and companies in the motion picture industry."
Marc Shmuger, vice chairman of Universal Pictures, one of the backers of UIP, added: "Andrew Cripps has been a champion of the international theatrical marketplace for many years, and a key component of Universal's worldwide success. His dedication, persistence and commitment to the international arena is unchallenged."
