Belgian arthouse distributor Cineart has been snapping up titles in Cannes official selection. New acquisitions include Waltz With Bashir (on The Match Factory's Cannes slate) and Korean title The Chaser (sold by Fine Cut.)
Among the films it has already acquired are Brazilian competition title Linha De Passe from Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas as well as Joachim La Fosse's Quinzaine title, Eleve Libre, and Rumba, the new film from Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy (screening in the Critics Week.)
Cineart has also taken out of competition title Sangue Pazzo from Marco Tullio Giordana. This follows on from its pre-buy of Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona.
Showing its appetite for a mix of arthouse and more mainstream fare, Cineart acquired JCVD, the Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle, earlier in the week. Other high-profile recent acquisitions include Slumdog Millionaire, Man On Wire and Duchess.
Cineart will be releasing The Dardenne brothers' Lorna's Silence on around 25 prints at the beginning of September.
Earlier this year, Cineart opened a theatrical office in the Netherlands. The Dutch office's first releases were Le Ballon Rouge, Crin Blanc and Le Grain Et Le Mulet.
