The company began demonstrating the technology last week to a select group of exhibitors, institutions, filmmakers and studios.

The system will become available in the fourth quarter of 2013 and is capable of digital projection on screen up to 120 ft wide.

It will incorporate IMAX’s next-generation image enhancer and be integrated with an upgraded IMAX sound system featuring patented calibration technology upgraded from five to eight discrete channels plus a sub-bass.

IMAX said the product can deliver unrivalled image quality, brightness and clarity as well as contrast and a deeper colour range including “ultra” black.
