One Eyed Films is developing English-language horror feature based on the classic Coffin Joe character.
The film is being planned as a Brazil/Canada/Spain co-production.
The film has the working title of Santo Amaro The Bitter Garden and it would be the first Coffin Joe (Ze do Caixao) film in English. The cult character is the evil undertaker created by Brazil's horror master Mojica Marins.
The pitch is that Coffin Joe will be updated: 'This will be a new contemporary stylish version , accessible to audiences unfamiliar with Coffin Joe but loosely inspired in this unique character deeply rooted in Latin American horror,' the film-makers said.
Brazil-based production company Veras O Imaginario, recently set up by One Eyed's Betina Goldman, will produce.
'As his agent for over ten years we have been able to witness the continuing fascination that Mojica Marins/Coffin Joe exerts over hte international horror community,' Goldman said.
