TheRussian film industry has another hit film on its hands.
TheState Councillor (Statsky Sovetnik) opened at the top of the Russian box officeover the weekend, grossing $2.5m in Russia and the CIS for distributor KaroPremier. It also opened top in Ukraine with $238,400 for Kinomania.
Thesuccess follows recent Russian successes this year including The Escape,Shadowboxing and Russian box office record holder Turkish Gambit -all of which continue to feature on the Russia & CIS table.
TheState Councillor,directed by Russian actor Filipp Yankovsky, is the third film based on a seriesof crime novels by Boris Akunin.
