Jean-Marc Vallee's C.R.A.Z.Y. literally swept the 2006 Jutra Awards, thecelebration of cinema in Quebec, to continue its domination of Canada's cinemaprizes. One week after winning ten prizes at Canada's Genie Awards, includingBest Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor, the Quebecois filmwon in each of the thirteen categories for which it was nominated, includingall the above categories as well as prizes for Best Supporting Actor (for whichthe film had two actors nominated), Best Supporting Actress, Cinematography,Art Direction, Editing, Costume Design, Hair, Make-up and Sound.
The one wrinkle between thetwo ceremonies was in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories: leadactor Marc-Andre Grondin and co-star Michel Cote were both nominated for BestActor at the Genies; Cote won the Genie. At the Jutras only Grondin wasnominated in Best Actor; he won. However, Cote and Pierre-Luc Brillant werenominated in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Jutras; Cote won.Although not widely followed in the rest of Canada, the Jutras are consideredthe greater honour in terms of prestige within the province.
OtherJutra prize winners were Elise Guibault for Best Actress in Bernard Emond's LaNeuvaine; Best Score to DanielBelanger for L'Audition. Best Documentaryhonours were shared by two films: La Classe De Madame Lise by Sylvie Groulx and Gilles Carle Ou L'indomptableImaginaire by Charles Biname.
