12 participants will be selected in the programme backed by Creative Skillset.
Creative England is launching a new development programme, Market Trader, to teach better understanding of international markets to ilm producers, distributors and sales agents at the start of their careers.
The programme, funded by Creative Skillset to support the BFI’s international strategy for UK Film, will include a series of residential workshops and mentoring in the UK. Paticipants will also receive support going to Berlin’s EFM and Cannes Market in 2015).
Twelve participants will be selected for the initial run of Market Trader, from January to March 2015. Application details are here.
Skills to be developed include pitching and negotiating deals.
The programme will also be used to develop an online platform.
Chris Moll, Head of Film at Creative England, said: “We know that international markets are a great opportunity for film professionals to make contacts, show off their work and sell their wares. But we also know that without the right knowhow and understanding, attending these festivals doesn’t always yield the best results or end up being very cost-effective. This programme aims to change that.”
Dan Simmons, Head of Film at Creative Skillset, said: “Creative Skillset identified a growing need to equip emerging film producers and executives with the skills to successfully engage with the international market, and it’s brilliant to see this programme come to fruition. We’re very pleased to be working with Creative England to also be developing the innovative online dimension which will keep the learning available, accessible, and up-to-date.”
