David Cronenberg won the best direction prize for Spider at the Directors Guild of Canada awards in Toronto on Saturday.

The UK-Canada co-production also won the DGC's Team Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Feature Film, a prize which reflects the job categories represented by the guild, including assistant director, editor and production designer.

Two Canadian feature filmmakers were similar double winners in television categories. Jerry Ciccoritti's Trudeau, a drama about the late Canadian prime minister Pierre Eliot Trudeau, won the direction and team awards in the television movie/mini-series category while Bruce McDonald won direction and team prizes for work on the TV series Queer As Folk.
