Tobias Lindholm and Michael Noer’s feature debut, R, win Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film in Gothenburg.

Danish directors Tobias Lindholm and Michael Noer’s feature debut, R, won the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at the 33rd Göteborg International Film Festival, which closes today (February 8). The prison drama also received the international critics’ FIPRESCI Prize.

Dutch director Esther Rots’ Can Go Through Skin (Kan Door Huid Heen) picked up the Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award, while the newly-creawted Nordic Film Music Prize went to Dani Strömbeck for Finnish director Klaus Härö’s Letters to Father Jacob (Postia Pappi Jakobille).

”It was the coldest and snowiest festival for many years, and at the same time the warmest and most fabulous,” said festival director Marit Kapla, whose programme of 450 films from 78 countries sold a record number of 130,400 tickets, up 9% on 2009. Around 200,000 guests attended festival events, including 6,000 participants at the 50 seminars and master classes, which included sessions with directors Günter Wallraff, Sally Potter and Claire Denis.

The three-day Nordic Film Market, which wrapped on Sunday (February 7), registered more than 300 international film and TV professionals, which is a record for the event. Cia Edström, the market’s director, said the attendance level confirmed that there is a ”huge level” of interest in Nordic cinema.

Aside from the Dragon winner, the market’s top attractions included Swedish blockbuster Easy Money (Snabba Cash), by Daniel Espinosa, and the 17 works-in-progress selection were the market’s top attractions.
