Dark Sky Films has unveiled an unusual theatrical distribution pattern for its provocative festival hit Deadgirl.

The company will release Deadgirl as a simultaneous one-weekend, midnight-only, roadshow-style theatrical event in 9 major markets, starting July 24. Other markets will be added in the future. Theatres include New York’s Sunshine, Austin, Texas’ Alamo Drafthouse, Los Angeles’ Nuart, and Chicago’s Music Box (as well as at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival.)

Gadi Harel and Marcel Sarminto’s dark drama stars Shiloh Fernandez, Noah Segan, Michael Bowen and Candice Accola. The story follows high school misfits who explore an abandoned hospital, where they find the body of a woman who may or may not be dead.

Dark Sky’s Marketing Manager Nicole Mikuzis, “The buzz on the film has been at a steady increase since its debut at the Toronto film festival, and we hope to build upon that momentum with nationwide midnight events. There is nothing like being part of a festival or midnight audience and sharing an experience as shocking, thought-provoking and polarizing as the one Deadgirl provides. We would like to bring that type of festival ‘event’ experience to moviegoers around the country. No matter where it plays, it will be bound to cause some very animated audience reactions, much like those that we have seen at every screening thus far.”
