Principal photography on the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Byambasuren Davaa's new feature documentary project Two Horses Of Genghis KhanstartedMonday(June 23) in the Mongolian city of Ulaanbaatar.
Shooting on the musical and mystical journey by the internationally renowned singer Urna will continue in Khentii Aimag, the birthplace of Genghis Khan, on the holy mountain of Burchan Chaldun, and in Karakorum, the former capital of the Mongolian Empire, until August.
The film will be released theatrically in Germany by Polyband Film, while the Swiss rights were acquired by LG Rialto Film. At last month's Cannes Film Market, world sales agent Atrix Films also sold the film to Spain (Karma Film) and the Benelux (Contact Film).
Davaa (The Cave Of The Yellow Dog and The Story Of The Weepong Camel) and Beatrix Wesle's Munich-based production house Grasland Film received support for the project from FFF Bayern and the German Federal Film Board (FFA) as well as public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk and facilities house ARRI.
