EXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate International will kick off pre-sales in Santa Monica next week on the Mark Wahlberg starrer from JC Chandor.

di Bonaventura Pictures, Closest To The Hole Productions and Leverage Entertainment produce the Summit and Participant Media presentation. Lionsgate will release in the US on September 30, 2016.

JC Chandor is scheduled to commence shooting in March 2015 based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Matthew Sand and Matthew Michael Carnahan.

Deepwater Horizon is inspired by the catastrophic oil rig collapse in the Gulf in 2010 and centres on a rig officer and a band of colleagues as they race to evacuate injured co-workers and hunt for survivors on the stricken platform.

The world premiere of Chandor’s A Most Violent Year starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain will open AFI FEST on November 6.
