With a big 62 print release behind it the release of local veteran Erik Clausen's Villa Paranoia managed to oust Something's Gotta Give from the top spot, as it opened with 24,075 admissions.
It is the 10th feature film from the 62 year-old actor, writer and director. The Keaton-Nicholson pairing did, however, retain a better screen average on its 34 prints and stayed in front of the other new release, John Woo's Paycheck.
Last week's boost to the Oscar winners was all but gone this week as both The Return Of The King, Lost In Translation and Mystic River dropped considerably again.
Gothika dropped to fourth but stayed well in front of Brother Bear and The Last Samurai on fifth and sixth respectively.
