Dhoom 3 has become the first Indian film to cross the $80m (Rs5bn) barrier at the worldwide box office, according to producer-distributor Yash Raj Films.
Released day-and-date on December 20 in India and overseas territories, the third installment in the action adventure franchise has so far grossed $56m (Rs3.5bn) in India and $25m (Rs1.5bn) overseas.
The top five international territories for the film are UAE, North America, UK, Pakistan and Australia. The film is also scheduled to open in Germany, Peru, Romania, Japan, Russia, CIS and Turkey over the coming week.
Dhoom 3 is also the first Bollywood film to be released in Imax theatres as part of a partnership between Yash Raj Films and the giant screen exhibitior, which also includes Shekhar Kapur’s upcoming Paani.
Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Dhoom 3 stars Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra.
