Director Samantha Lang'sfourth feature may well be The RosevilleStory, following its acceptance into Aurora, a high-profile script hothouse run by the NewSouth Wales Film and Television Office (FTO). Lang made Cannes competition title The Well and the Monkey's Mask in Australia, and The Idolin France.
Her actor/director husbandJeremy Sims is trying his hand at producing the drama alongside Greg Duffy. Thescriptwriter is Alexandra Long, daughter of the late veteran producer JoanLong. Roseville is a suburb on Sydney's north shore where Lang and Long both grew up.
State minister for arts BobDebus announced in Sydney that fivenew features and their creative teams had been selected for this year. Somersault and Little Fish are former participants of Aurora, introduced in 2002.
Danish writer/director Lone Scherfig (Italian For Beginners, Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself) will be lending her expertise this year, as will Australianscreenwriter Laura Jones (Oscar AndLucinda, Angela's Ashes), and US writer Robin Swicord (Memoirs Of A Geisha, Practical Magic, LittleWomen), who also has some producing credits.
Satellite Boy, fromwriter/director Catriona McKenzie, who was in Screen International's Australian Starsof Tomorrow edition last year, has also been chosen for Aurora. So too has UnderThe Dash,written and directed by Lynne Maree Danzie and produced bySusan MacKinnon, who was long-time head of documentary investment at FilmFinance Corporation Australia until late last year.
