Alta Films has picked up theatrical rights for Spain to Woody Allen’s new drama You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger from Imagina ahead of its presence at Cannes in as an out of competition screening.
This is a coup for Alta Films, which normally picks up smaller arthouse and independent projects from Europe.
Allen’s Stranger is a romantic comedy drama produced by MediaPro, Versatil Cinema and Gravier, in association with Antena 3, and stars Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin and Antonio Banderas.
Imagina has already secured several distribution deals on the film, which shot in London last summer, including to Sony Pictures Classics for the US, Warner Bros for France, Medusa for Italy, Concorde for Germany and Sun Distribution for Latin America.
Stranger is set to feature in the official selection at Cannes, outside of competition, alongside Stephen Frears’ Tamara Drewe and Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
