Russell Brand dominates the North America charts as Hop stayed top on $21.7m for $68.2m after two weekends for Universal and Warner Bros’ new release of its Arthur remake opened in second on $12.6m for a rare one-two punch.
Focus Features’ well reviewed action thriller Hanna starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana opened in third on $12.3m while TriStar / FilmDistrict’s family drama Soul Surferopened in fourth place on $11.,1m.
Fledgling distributor FilmDistrict has released its first two films in the past two weekends and both rank in the top ten: horror release Insidious in fifth place added $9.7m for $27.1m.
Universal’s stoner comedy Your Highness with Natalie Portman, James Franco and Danny McBride arrived in sixth place on $9.5m.
Rio, Fox’s international hit Rio from Blue Sky Studio, opens next weekend, as does TWC / Dimension’s Scream 4.
