Spanish distributor Aurum Producciones announced a 7.7% local market share in 2010, which the company claimed represented close to a 33% rise on the previous year.
Powered by a slate of Twilight: Eclipse (pictured), The Ghost Writer and Skyline, among others, Aurum’s box office for the year exceeded €50m.
“2010 was a phenomenal year for us across all of our divisions and we look to maintain this success and continue to grow,” Aurum general manager Jorge Vazquez said. “We are confident our solid theatrical slate and home entertainment product will help us do just that.”
“We have been the largest independent in Spain for the last four years,” Xavier Marchand, president of worldwide distribution at parent company Alliance Films, said. “Our market share grows year-on-year and is now commensurate with some of the studios. I want to take this opportunity to thank Jorge Vazquez, Igor Ibeas, Raquel Villa and Susana Cardenas and the rest of the team for their exceptional work.”
Aurum’s January 2011 releases included Red, The Way Back and Sanctum for a combined €8.3m box office so far. This year’s roster features the Spanish productions There Be Dragons from Roland Joffe and Tele 5’s sci-fi Verbo starring Miguel Angel Silverstre.
