Ambitious start-up Broad Green has paid $6.5m in Berlin for US rights to Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups ahead of its festival premiere as well as the director’s untitled follow-up.
Christian Bale plays a troubled Hollywood screenwriter and the cast includes Nathalie Portman and Cate Blanchett.
It is understood the deal calls for Knight Of Cups to open on at least 100 screens in 50 of the top 100 markets.
CAA and WME Global represented US rights and FilmNation handles international sales.
Bale and Portman also star in the untitled project.
