Bruno has scored the second biggest opening day of the year in Australia behind Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen with a $1.35m Wednesday launch.
The Media Rights Capital film opened on 222 screens through Universal/UPI and took $1.69m AUD, which Universal sources confirmed was roughly 60% ahead of the opening day result for Borat in November 2006..
This was the third best comedy launch in the country behind the December 2004 debut of Meet The Fockers and Sex And The City in 2008.
Universal/UPI is releasing the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy in all eight of its territories this weekend day-and-date with North America, including the UK and Germany. Mandate International pre-sold remaining territories.
