EXCLUSIVE: Deals on new Nicolas Cage drama include a mid-six figure deal with Wild Side for France.
WestEnd has seen good traffic on David Gordon Green’s upcoming drama Joe, starring Nicolas Cage.
Wild Side has taken French rights in a mid-six figure deal, while the UK-based outfit has also closed deals in Japan (CCC), Latin America (Vinny) and Middle East (ECS).
Cage stars as an ex-con who becomes an unlikely role model to a teenager from a troubled home. CAA handles US rights.
Manuel Chiche, Wild Side MD said: “We are simply delighted to work with David Gordon Green and his producer Lisa Muskat again after working on Undertow. Noone could better adapt Larry Brown’s novel than David. And Nic Cage will be terrific in the lead role”.
WestEnd has also closed deals on market debutant The Right Kind of Wrong to Middle East (ECS), A Late Quartet – which opened this weekend in the US via eOne – to Hong Kong (Golden Scene) and Latin America (Vinny) and on comedy-horror Love Bite to Latin America (Vinny), Japan (Kadokawa), Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm) and Taiwan (Deepjoy).
Neil Jordan’s Byzantium has gone to Australia (Rialto), Latin America (Vinny), Switzerland (Elite AG), Hong Kong (Edko Film) and Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm); Invisible Woman has sold to Latin America (Vinny) and Turkey (Mars Entertainment); Footnote has sold to South Africa (Ster Kinekor), Albert Nobbs to Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm), Siberian Education to Scandinavia (Smile) and Bethlehem to Latin America (Vinny). Drama Little Birds has gone to Japan (CCC), Scandinavia (Smile) and Airlines (Captive).
