Alex Gibney’s documentary about church sex abuse will premiere in Toronto on Sunday (Sept 9).
Content Media represents DVD and download-to-own rights in the US along with international rights. HBO Documentary Films will open the film theatrically in November prior to the broadcast slot in early 2013.
Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House Of God follows four deaf men who set out to expose the Catholic Church scandal whose ramifications reach up all the way to the Vatican. Chris Cooper, Ethan Hawke, Jamey Sheridan and John Slattery lend their vocal talents to the production.
“This is a very important story that needs to be told,” Gibney said. “I am delighted to have produced the film with HBO Documentary Films and that the world will be able to discover the film with Content’s team on board to sell it.”
Gibney produced with Todd Wider, Jedd Wider, Alexandra Johnes and Kristen Vaurio through Jigsaw Productions, in association with Wider Film Projects. HBO Documentary Films head Sheila Nevins is executive producer alongside Lori Singer and Jessica Kingdon.
