Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 extended its supremacy over the international arena for a third consecutive weekend thanks to a $54.8m haul confirmed on Monday [6] by Warner Bros Pictures International.
Active on more than 14,000 screens in 63 territories, the children’s fantasy climbed to $469.7m aided by a $9.2m second weekend hold in France for $31m and a $5.5m gross in the UK for $62m after three.
In other third weekend holds, Deathly Hallows added $5.4m in Japan for $45.3m, $5.2m in Germany for $43.6m, $3.3m in Australia for $30.8m, $2.6m in China for $28m and $2.2m in Brazil for $16m. Italy stands at $22.2m, Russia $24.2m, Spain $14.6m and Mexico $12m.
Due Date earned a further $6.4m from more than 3,000 screens in 54 markets for $82.5m. After five weekends the UK has generated $15.9m and Germany has produced $11.3m.
- Tangled grossed a further $26m through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI) from 3,355 screens in 15 territories as the tally climbed to an early $45.8m.
France was the key driver was a $6.5m launch from 658 screens, while the film opened top in Italy on $5.9m from 452 screens.
Tangled is now Disney’s biggest animated release of all time and the industry’s third biggest animated non-sequel as $5.8m in Russia from 600 was enough to hold on to number one and boost the tally to $16.6m. Mexico has generated $6.4m following a $2.3m second weekend hold from 525.
- DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind opened across much of Europe and Latin America through PPI, taking $15.7m from 3,234 venues for an early $48.5m. PPI confirmed the results on Monday [6].
The film opened in 17 territories, including Brazil, Germany, Spain, and the UK. It took $4.6m in the UK from 470, $2.6m in Brazil from 245 and $1.9m in Spain from 551 locations. The German launch brought in $1.7m from 552.
Jackass 3D grossed $3.4m from 1,117 locations this weekend for $46.9m and opened in Russia on $2m from 393 and Italy on $661,000 from 149. Paranormal Activity 2 stands at $83.3m.
- Unstoppable added $4.4m through Fox International from 2,700 screens in 52 markets for $51.3m and opened in second place in Holland on $446,124 from 74. My Name Is Khan launched in China on $43,937 from 300. Vampires Suck stands at $43.7m. Next weekend The Chronicles Of Narnia:The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader opens day-and-date with North America in 59 markets. All results are confirmed.
- Lionsgate reported a $3.7m weekend gross for Saw 3D from 1,100 screens that raised the cumulativetotal to $73.4m.
- Confirmed results reveal Sony Pictures Releasing International’s The Social Network grossed $2.7m from 1,331 in 56 for $93.9m. The Facebook saga opened in third place in Brazil on $1m from 159. Machete added $1.2 from 725 in Sony markets for $8.9m and opened in sixth place in France on $725,000 from 178.
- Summit International’s Red added $2m from 1,840 sites in 41 territories for $72.4m.
- Unversal/UPI’s Devil grossed $1.4m from 900 venues in 24 territories for $19.9m according to confirmed results. It opened in third place in Australia on $470,000 from 147. Despicable Me added $1.5m from 2,200 in 38 for $286.7m, while Biutiful launched in Spain on $1m from 205 in fifth place. La Donna Della Mia Vita has amassed $2.8m in italy after two weekends.
