Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to Nothing Can Hurt Me, Drew DeNicola and Oliva Mori’s documentary about the band Big Star.
Senior vp of acquisitions Dori Begley negotiated the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine. Magnolia plans a theatrical release later this year.
Mori and Danielle McCarthy produced and John Fry, founder of Ardent Studios, served as executive producer with Gill Holland and David Armillei.
- Phase 4 has picked up all digital and DVD rights to Bad Kids Go To Hell [pictured] in a deal with XYZ Films and the law offices of Elsa Ramo. Red Sea Media handles international sales. The dark comedy is based on the comic book series of the same name and follows six private school students locked in detention while a killer roams on the loose. The Breakfast Club’s Judd Nelson stars alongside Ali Faulkner, Roger Edwards, Marc Donato, Cameron Deane Stewart, Augie Duke, Amanda Alch, Jeffrey Schmidt and Chanel Ryan. The film opened in the US and Canada last December.
