E1 Entertainment has acquired US rights from Vera Rights Management to the drama Helen starring Ashley Judd, Goran Visnjic and Lauren Lee Smith.

Sandra Nettelbeck’s film premiered at Sundance 2009 and tells of a beautiful professor who suffers a breakdown and seeks comfort from a troubled woman.

Vice-president of worldwide acquisitions Sejin Park negotiated the deal with and Brigitte Sachse of Vera Rights Management.

E1 will open the film in July with a platform theatrical release in New York City prior to distribution on home video, VOD, digital and TV.

Helen is E1’s latest acquisition for US release following Taylor Hackford’s Love Ranch starring Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci, which is currently in release.
