The Italian distributor has snapped up rights from K5 International to Mira Nair’s thriller ahead of its opening night slot in Venice on Wendesday (29).
The Doha Film Institute financed The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which is based on the novel by Mohsin Hamid. The author co-adapted the screenplay with Ami Boghani and William Wheeler. Lydia Dean Pilcher produced.
Kate Hudson, Riz Ahmed, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Martin Donovan and Om Puri star in the story about a Pakistani financier on Wall Street torn between two countries who gets involved in a hostage crisis.
Tarak Ben Ammar negotiated the deal with K5’s Carl Clifton. K5 is handling international sales after New York head of acquisitions Erica Motley and founding partners Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur acquired the film.
Hal Sadoff for the Doha Film Institute and Bart Walker at Cinetic represent North American rights.
