New York-based Elephant Eye has picked up Sean Baker’s third feature, the comedy Prince Of Broadway, and has set a September 3 platform release in New York.
The film was a prizewinner at the Los Angeles and Woodstock film festivals and earned a special jury prize at Locarno.
Preciousdirector Lee Daniels has signed on to promote the film and said, “I felt like I was watching someone’s real life unfold right before my eyes. Sean Baker’s movie is a tour de force.”
Prince Of Broadway tells the story of a Ghanaian immigrant who hustling for a living in New York’s Flatiron district when he is confronted by the son he never knew he had.
“Sean Baker’s inspirational approach to movie-making marries old school guerilla feel with fresh, emotional direction,” Elephant Eye principals Kim Jose and David Robinson said. “It has been such a pleasure to be a part of this film and work with the team that has been assembled to get this great movie out into the marketplace.”
Prince Of Broadway will open at the Laemmle Sunset Five in Los Angeles before expanding into further markets. Baker’s previous features are Take Outand Four Letter Words.
